ADI also offers a cardiovascular screening service. These potentially life-saving screenings will benefit anyone who may be at risk for cardiovascular disease.

Screenings do not require an order form from a physician.

What Do Our Screenings Include?

Abdominal Aorta Ultrasound
Abdominal Aorta Ultrasound

An abdominal aorta test is a painless, non-invasive ultrasound of the aorta - the largest artery in the body. The aorta carries oxygen-rich blood away from the heart. This screening checks for Aneurysms (dilatations of arterial wall) and plaque buildup in the abdominal aorta. An Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm is a bulge in a section of the aorta, weakening the artery wall. Aneurysms are a serious risk because they can burst or rupture, causing severe internal bleeding.

Ankle Brachial IndexAnkle Brachial Index

An ABI is a measurement of the blood pressure in the lower legs compared to the blood pressure in the arms. This screening checks for Peripheral Arterial Disease in legs. Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), also known as Peripheral Vascular Disease, is a build up of fatty deposits in the inner linings of the artery walls which restricts blood circulation.

Carotid Artery Ultrasound

A carotid artery test is a non-invasive ultrasound of the carotid arteries in the neck. This screening checks for plaque buildup / blockages of arteries in neck that supply blood to the brain and face.

We are also one of the few sites in the state that perform CIMT testing.

CIMT testing

CIMT Testing:

Carotid Intima Media Thickness (CIMT) testing has been found to correlate with the risk of developing blockage in the arteries that feed the heart and cause heart attacks. The test, which uses ultrasound, measures the thickness of the wall of the Carotid artery in the neck, the artery that feeds the brain. Thickening in this artery is an early change, before actual plaques develop, a sign of increased risk of development of blockages in the heart arteries and other arteries in the body, increasing the risk of heart attacks. We can compare the thickness to known databases of thousands of patients, and arrive at an estimate of heart attack risk, compared to the general population.

The test is simple, painless, and non-invasive – no injections, needles, of any kind. A gel is put over the neck area on both sides, then sound beams are used to get an ultrasound picture of the carotid arteries. Measurements are generated, and a report of the findings is issued. The Artery-Age CIMT Test takes about 20 minutes. There is no special preparation.
